Why we partnered?

Sustainability is something we gladly see more and more often in the travel industry. Hotels and travel agencies on Curacao are increasingly focusing on this important topic too. The Avila Beach Hotel as well, for many years. Water Refill Program Curacao’s mission is to reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles in Curacao and support the community to work together for a sustainable island. Their mission matches exactly with Avila’s mission in creating a more sustainable island and ultimately better world.

 

Sustainability policy Avila Beach Hotel 

The Avila Beach Hotel is the oldest operational hotel on the island and therefore the setting of many warm memories of not only (loyal) hotel guests, but also from locals. Without the support and love of the local community, Avila would have been a different Avila. And the hotel gladly repays the favor. Also, to our employees. Over 90% of Avila’s superstars are born and raised on Curacao. Our staff is indispensable to achieve our goals that match with our vision and mission. We therefore try to educate our employees and encourage them to think along in sustainable solutions. To start internally is to gain externally.

 

What can you do?

Together we can make a change! Lead by example in sustainability initiatives includes the entire Avila Beach Hotel team. Avila Beach Hotel wants to engage their employees in the sustainability journey by raising knowledge, getting involved so they can together make every employee a sustainability champion! And they can bring their knowledge home to pass it on.

 

The 'Water Refill Program Curaçao' started out as a pilot in June 2019. During the lockdown, D-TAP by D-Bottle has converted their findings into a renewed policy. Through the 'Water Refill Program', there is a broader commitment to a more sustainable Curaçao, both short term and long term. The Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations became the compass of the program.

 

Core values to the program are:

3. Economic Development

 

Based on these core values, 10 sustainability objectives have been set up. Avila Beach Hotel is going to focus on two of these 10 sustainability goals, namely 'Life below water and Life on land'.

Green Phenix is ​​a social enterprise that converts plastic waste into new useful products and creates a circular economy in the Caribbean. Their service helps to create new jobs in Curaçao while reducing the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills and the environment. We donate 5% of our revenue to Green Phenix.
